Reductio ad Absurdum
2018-20
“In a remote, arid and dry place, a figure appears. It takes the stage.
Without an apparent identity, it is subjected to do an impossible task. Useless, illogical and absurd, coming to an end does not seem to be an option. Only trial-and-error, failing and starting over are kept present.”
Reductio ad Absurdum starts from an interest in the mythological and tragic character of Sisyphus, his task, and consequently the absurd of Albert Camus. The project aims to explore the various possibilities that drawing and pictorial objects can establish with the performative act, based on a process of redocumentation.
The placement of a figure in a deserted space, charged with carrying out an apparently useless and absurd transport action around a circle demarcated on the earth, refers directly to the repetition and temporality associated with the daily and routine work of the worker or the mythological character .
It is from the sisific action, from an idea of failure, that the creative process is enhanced. The work has as its base and main focus drawing and its documentary relationship with the performative but extends beyond the same focusing on a multimodal practice, which includes painting, photography and the three-dimensionality of installations and dioramas. Together, these works form clues and rumors, instigating fantasy in the spectator who may not have been present in the performative event, creating a speculative place of fictional possibilities and visual reconstructions.
